Frankston is a large beach town about 30 mins south of Melbourne.
It is infamous for drugs, crime, teen pregnancy, sand sculptures and the Maccas carpark. They’ve tried to clean it up, but lets just say tracksuits are clothing for all seasons and the dentist is a lonely man.
We had played Frankston before in two much larger venues, but this place was the best by far.
It was next to the train line and underground. On stage Sean had a strangely positioned drum-riser/hidey-hole with a window that opened to peoples feet in the beer garden behind his head. The rest of the band was perched on an area about one metre deep and three metres wide. We had to fully extend the microphone stands to place them on the dance floor for as much room as possible.
The band rider was some gnarly cheap beer not sold to the public and the merch desk was next to the toilet.
The opening band did a bizarre mash-up of a Yothu Yindi & a Led Zeppelin song.
The audience was wasted, smoke was wafting in from outside, we played a great show highlighting hits from all three albums and we had to load out through security breaking up the obligatory closing time fights.
